LETTER: Workers at risk, drivers annoyed

This is for our city workers and highway contractors to take notice of the disruptions to our streets and traffic pattern on the Trans-Canada Highway, while putting the flag persons in danger from confused drivers and the other drivers who are annoyed with the delays.

It is bad enough that we have Highway 1 running through Salmon Arm and are dealing with traffic and truckers running red lights and tailgating.

We live in a very dangerous city to drive in these days and we haven’t even hit the summer traffic season yet.

I realize workers are just trying to clean up the winter mess from all the gravel placed on the roads, but their coordinator needs to maybe have his or her head examined, or be put on the road crew holding a flag stick to see how long he or she lasts on the job with all the traffic and danger.

I’m sure there is a better time to do this work rather than having a dozen business getting disrupted, and having people dazed and confused, not to mention the danger that it adds to our already congested traffic problem.

Some other cities work nights to get the tasks like this done with very little disruption to traffic. It would take less time to do the same tasks, and save money to our city while being much safer.

Fixing the TCH traffic pattern is a whole other issue. Rerouting Highway 1 around Salmon Arm needs to be re-addressed. Our growing city needs to deal with this issue sooner than later.

Our city councillors need to broaden their vision regarding traffic patterns for future growth. It is only going to get worse as summer hits and time goes on.
