Pet owners need to be more responsible

We have a lovely city but..

Having spent a couple of months south of the border it is a treat to be back home in Salmon Arm, one of the most beautiful cities anywhere on the continent. Except for one particular problem, Salmon Arm is tops. Here is my concern:

What I appreciate about U.S. cities in Washington, Oregon and California, is that  citizens are very respectful of protocol for pets.  Animals  are assigned to designated areas and more importantly animal owners respect regulations. Americans are  very sensitive to ensuring streets and sidewalks remain free of animal waste.  It is so refreshing to be able to walk on public property without encountering animal feces.

Regrettably that is not the always the case in Salmon Arm. Unfortunately  it is a rare event to go for a walk in Salmon Arm  and not encounter animal waste. It is distressing to have our streets, sidewalks and parks soiled with the unpleasantness of careless dog owners. Please Salmon Arm residents, do not take your pets  to defecate on sidewalks and boulevards. And when they do their business in designated areas, please take your doggie bag with you so that Salmon Arm can be the outstanding city it has the potential to be. Through diligence in this matter not only will our city be more beautiful,  the potential for breeding  flies will be significantly reduced. Come on Salmon Arm, let us  make sure our city  is as clean and beautiful as any city anywhere. Kudos  to the majority of pet owners who  manage pet wastes appropriately, even when no one is looking!
