Come for a Santa Cruise

The 16th Annual Santa Cruise will take place Sunday, Dec. 11. It’s a fun event with free technique: skate or classic. It’s approximately 10-km for 18-plus, five km. for 14 to 17, three km. for 10-13, two km. for 7 to 9 and one km. for six and under. Or, choose your own distance. Register from 10 to 10:55 a.m., 11 a.m. start.

Entry fee is a cash or cheque donation to the Shuswap food banks, or contribute an item for their popular Christmas shopping auction and/or bring food to share for lunch. If you pay by cheque to the Salvation Army Food Bank or Second Harvest Food Bank, you will receive an income tax receipt. There’ll be an auction in the chalet after the skiing. All proceeds go to the Shuswap food banks.



Minor Hockey Day Jan. 7

Salmon Arm Minor Hockey Day is coming to Sunwave Centre on Saturday, Jan. 7, when the local minor hockey association will be celebrating its 50th year in this community.

A number of activities are planned for the day including rep and recreation games, barbecue and a great chili cookoff competition. It will be a homecoming for the past provincial winning teams which include the 1970-’71 Juvenile team, the ’91-’92 Bantam team, the ’92-’93 Bantam and Midget teams and the 2008-’09 Female Midget team. A special banquet honouring these players and coaches will be held at Sunwave Centre. The evening will culminate with all current SAMHA teams invited to attend the Penticton Vees versus Salmon Arm Silverbacks BCHL game at 7 pm. Tickets will be provided courtesy of SAMHA and the Silverbacks. For more information, contact the SAMHA office at 250-832-0095.

At the Salmon Arm Curling Club’s Ladies 50+ bonspiel over the weekend, A side winners were: skip Sandra Jenkins, third Kate Horne, second Gerry Kiy and lead Hetty Burt.

B side winners were skip Trish Probyn, third Dorothy Bradford, second Agatha Raymond and lead Lois Angle.
