Shuswap Swimmers tune up at invitational
The Shuswap Swimming Team showed they had more than team spirit going for them this weekend at their AAA Tune Up Invitational swim meet.
Swimmers from Kamloops, Westbank, Kelowna and Vernon all showed up Sunday to race the Shuswap team, and to see some very fast racing. The meet was primarily geared towards the younger athletes at this provincial level.
• Girls, 10 & under – Carrie Fromme broke the team record in the 50-metre breaststroke. Jenna Tiedeman also broke a team record in the 50-m Butterfly. Sandra Hall improved her time in the 200-m individual medley race and is eligible to compete at the Invitational level.
• Girls, 13 to 14 – Bree Cooper swept first place in all three of her races and broke the team record in the 50-m breaststroke.
Teammate Skyla Eberle won two of her three races, and earned some best times.
• Boys, 11 to 12 – Ethan Quilty posted three team records in the 50-m breaststroke, the 200-m individual medley and the 200m backstroke. His time in the backstroke also earned him a new AAA qualifying time.
• Boys, 15 and older – Jake Kitchen swept first place in all of his races.
Pumped about the meet, and with pom-poms and posters, team cheers and supportive racing, the Shuswap Swimming Team also won the Team Spirit Award.
There is still room on the team. Call 250-804-2006 for more information.
