The GM Outlaws were back in soccer action this past week as they made the daunting journey across to Revelstoke short on players and having already been beaten by the Revelstoke Stallions once this season.

The Outlaws’ midfield were dominating the ball and controlling possession early, winning most challenges and breaking down the Revelstoke attacks. When the ball made its way through the midfield area, the Outlaws’ defense cleaned up everything and distributed the ball nicely.

Just past the midway point of the half, Ahmad Zakreet calmly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper’s head for his second goal of the season. This gave the Outlaws their first lead of the season.

The Outlaws continued where they left off in the second half, playing the ball nicely and creating chances; however, they couldn’t quite find the back of the net.

The Outlaws lived to rue their missed chances as Revelstoke broke through the middle of the field, and after a tangle of legs inside the penalty area, the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

Number 77 for Revelstoke stepped up and calmly kicked the ball home beyond the despairing dive of the Outlaws’ goalkeeper.

The Outlaws continued to pile the pressure on the Revelstoke defense, leading to a corner kick. The Outlaws’ Josh Hardy stepped up and delivered a cross to the far post, which resulted in a header being cleared off the line. The pressure didn’t stop there as the follow up resulted in another header coming back off the crossbar, before Josiah Schut crashed home a volley from the rebound for the goal.

Revelstoke pushed hard for an equalizer, but were denied by some magnificent saves from the Outlaws’ shot stopper, Cody Zimmer.

The Outlaws held on and took the 2-1 win.

The Outlaws walked off the field celebrating their first win of the season in what could be a turning point for them.

The Outlaws are back home tonight, Wednesday, June 21 as they take on the current league leaders, Monashee.
