Four members of the Salmon Arm Ice Breakers Speed Skating Club took to the ice in Abbotsford with B.C.’s best short-track skaters over the weekend to post some stellar results.
Aila Norlin, age 11, displayed tenacity in her series of races, battling hard to achieve a sixth-place finish in her division and securing the final placing on Team BC for the Canada West Short Track Championships being held in Saskatoon, Sask., March 18-19.
In her provincial debut, Ila Isaac, eight, shattered personal best times and skated to a seventh-place finish in her division.
Her 12-year-old brother, Jack Isaac, repeatedly set significant personal best times while racing in his highly competitive division.
Masters level skater Alex Seal raced with skaters aged 30-plus and overcame an epic fall to win the top spot in the Masters 50-plus division.
Another Ice Breakers skater, Phoenix Nash, qualified for provincials but was unable to attend.
Another phenomenal season for the Salmon Arm Ice Breakers is coming to a close. Club skaters aged three to 63 competed in meets in Kelowna, Kamloops, and Vernon this season. Skating, for all ages and abilities, will pick up again in September. For more information, visit salmonarmspeedskating.com or call Crystal at 250-833-7995.
