A look at the upcoming sports action lined up for the next week

SAS basketball homecoming

The Homecoming tournament was held at the Sullivan campus gym on Dec. 22 and 23.

The Homecoming games featured the current SAS Golds and Jewels teams and teams of alumni players. SAS Golds head coach Rhys Waters said he was pleased with the turnout

of more than 50 players.

SWRSA indoor soccer

The Shuswap Women’s Recreational Soccer Association’s winter indoor soccer season kicks off on Jan. 5.

Senior Jewels basketball

The Senior Jewels basketball team will host a four-team, round-robin tournament this Friday and Saturday.  The Jewels play at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, and 12:15 and 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Hirose starts strong

Former Salmon Arm Silverback Taro Hirose has had a strong start to his U.S. college hockey season with three goals and 11 points for the Michigan State Spartans in the first 16 games.

Teck Cup cross country

The Teck Cup, a part of the BC College and University cross-country ski series, will be held at the Larch Hills Nordic area on Jan. 7 and 8. Races in both skating and classic techniques will be held for skiers ages seven to 70-plus.

Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet

Online registration for the 33rd annual Reino Keski-Salmi Loppet opened on Dec. 12,  and will close Jan. 12, 2017. The event will take place on Saturday, Jan. 14. Those interested in the event can also register in person between 3 and 8 p.m. at the SASCU Recreation Centre or by mail. For more information, visit http://skilarchhills.ca/loppet.

Bridge results

The results for Wednesday, Dec. 28 from the Cedar Heights Duplicate Bridge Club: First place Gary Oleskiw, second place  Diane Wiebe and Glenn Coe and third place Geoff Collins and Bruce Motherwell.
