The U12 Shuswap Storm finished their season at the Vernon Spring Fling Ringette Tournament March 10 to 12 with a gold medal win in overtime with a score of 4-3 over the Vernon Thunderwolves.

Shuswap beat out teams from across the province including the Lower Mainland, Prince George and the Okanagan to arrive at the gold-medal game.

Shaylah Ferguson scored three goals in the final game including the tying goal with 13 seconds left in final period, sending the game into overtime.

Emily French scored the game-winning goal with 29 seconds left in the overtime period.

Shuswap’s goalie Kellen Mooney finished the weekend as the top goalie with only seven goals against him in five games.

Earning MVP spots over the weekend were Camryn Petty, Sequoia Robinson, Ava Hawrys and Ryann Decker who contributed strong offensive and defensive games in the round-robin play.

Victory at the Vernon Spring Fling Tournament marked the end of a very accomplished season for the Storm which included a first-place finish at the Kelowna Sweetheart Tournament in February, a first-place finish in the TORL league with 36 points and then the perfect end to the season with the gold medal win in Vernon.
