Now open: Salmon Arm’s new Dairy Queen opened its doors Monday with a staff of about 40 people.

At long last for DQ lovers, Salmon Arm is once again home to a Dairy Queen.

The new restaurant, which sits next to the site of the under-construction Askew’s at the top of the hill, opened its doors Monday.

It’s the first in Canada to sport the new colour and interior design, says co-owner Gurdeep Grewal.

The new outlet is a Grill and Chill, featuring all the favourite ice cream treats as well as burgers and other foods off the grill. Also on the menu are Orange Julius drinks.

Patrons are served at their tables in the 70-seat restaurant and there’a also a drive-through.

About 40 staff have been hired already.

Grewal points out that his business partner Hermail Brar has more than 20 years’ experience with Dairy Queen, running three restaurants in the Lower Mainland.

The DQ will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days per week.
