Members of the Shuswap 4H Club gather at the Gleneden Hall for the club’s recent communications day event.

In March, the Shuswap 4H Club met at Gleneden Hall for their club communications event.

There were two different types of communications: 4H speeches and 4H speak and shows. Speeches are given on any topic, while the speak and show has to be on an agricultural topic and the speaker may use props to explain an activity or skill.

More than 40 people attended the event. Judges were Janet Walton, Ardie Burnham, and Arlene Brown, who were appreciated for volunteering their time and help to make communications day a success.

There were three different age groups participating: seniors (ages 13 to 19), juniors (nine to 12) and clover buds (six to eight years old).

The winner for the senior speeches was Isaac Turgeon-O’Brien. Junior speech winner was Nico Miedema and the junior speak and show winner was Emma Muddiman.

The speech winners and the runners up are encouraged to attend the district competition and compete against the other junior and senior club members. All of the 4H members worked hard and did a great job.
