Construction of the Chase Skate Park has been moving along recently, but behind the scenes.

Organizers say the steel has been undergoing bending in Vancouver and, if it’s ready, may be installed at the skate park this upcoming weekend.

In a letter to supporters on April 26, Kelsey Snelgrove, president of the Chase & District Skate Park, said local contractors have generously stepped up to help, their assistance including the removal of the old asphalt.

“We do still have some fundraising to do to cover material and fuel costs,” she wrote.

She said since the beginning of April, organizers have raised $10,830, making them only $19,170 from their goal.

“While we get this skate park built for the kids and youth of Chase and surrounding communities, we are also going to be beautifying the park with trees, benches, and other items so everybody can enjoy their time down at the park.”

She noted there are sponsorship opportunities, and tax receipts can be issued through the Village of Chase.

With a bronze donation of $500 and up, a donor will receive a recognition plaque on a tree in Centennial Park or on a bike rack. A silver donation of $1,500 and up receives a recognition plaque on a park bench in the park. A gold donation of $5,000 and up receives a recognition plaque on a picnic table in the park. Substantial donors may have the opportunity to have the park named after them.

Cheques can be made out to Chase & District Skate Park and sent to Box 524, Chase, V0E 1M0 or donations can be made online at www.GoFundMe.com/ChaseSkatePark. To receive a tax receipt, make your cheque out to Village of Chase re: Chase Skate Park.
