Christmas light display shines a light on need

Enderby couple goes Griswold for a good cause

When it comes to decorating their home for the holidays Shawn and Amanda Mann decided there was only one way to go — big. In a display that would make Clark Griswold proud, the Enderby couple, with the help of their neighbour, Edith, has decked their home out with more than 1000 lights in a bid to share their Christmas spirit with the community.

The community responded in kind by awarding them first prize in the holiday decorating contest.

The couple said they participate each year, and use the contest as an opportunity to raise donations for “good causes.”

“Last year we won 3rd place in the contest, and collected donations for the BC Children’s Hospital,” Amanda said. “We raised around $2000.

This year the couple is collecting donations of food and funds for the the Feed Enderby and District food bank, and hope that anyone wishing to come by their Birch Crescent home and enjoy the light display will leave a donation for the the food bank.

Amanda said they have left a Rubbermaid bin in front of their garage, for non-perishable food items, as a drop-box for cash or cheque donations. Both are emptied every night to avoid theft. The couple also has a security camera to deter theft.

Their home is located at 123 Birch Crescent in Enderby. The lights are on each day between 4:30 and 10 p.m. until Jan.1.
