Apparently it pays to have the law on your side.

Apparently it pays to have the law on your side.

At last year’s game between city staff and the fire department, the city got burned. Not so this year.

At Saturday night’s fundraising hockey game for the Burn Fund, the city recruited four RCMP officers. Coincidentally, the game was a tight contest this year, with the score tied all the way to the end of regulation time. It was only in sudden-death overtime that the fire department took the lead, winning 6 to 5.

Former SilverBack Tony Gallant took the honours, scoring the winning goal. Not that the city and law enforcement squad hadn’t tried their best to shut down Gallant. He was arrested and handcuffed midway through the game – but the bogus charges didn’t stick.

Outstanding player on the city’s side was goalie Thomas Blakney from Sicamous, who kept the city alive.

Along with a rematch next year versus the firefighers, the city/cop squad plan to take on the teachers, possibly in April.

Saturday night’s event raised about $1,200 for the charity.
