Hospice seeks helpers

The Shuswap Hospice Society is offering a 30-hour volunteer training course for anyone interested in helping with the organization.

The Shuswap Hospice Society is offering a 30-hour volunteer training course for anyone interested in helping with the organization.

An information session will take place on Friday, Sept. 30 from 10 a.m. to noon and training sessions will take place every Friday, starting Oct. 7 and ending Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Shuswap Hospice Society’s volunteer training program follows the standardized Hospice Volunteer Training in British Columbia developed by the BC Hospice Palliative Care Association in 2008.

Training consists of group learning led by qualified facilitators, learning based on practical experiences, reading suggested materials, mentoring support, and self-reflection.

The volunteer is expected to attend all training sessions relevant to her/his role and/or to make the necessary arrangements to complete the required 30-hour training.
