Silver Creek Elementary kicked off Unplug and Play, Family Literacy Week by going ice fishing at White Lake.
With the last few weeks of very cold weather the ice thickened up on many local lakes.
Members of staff believe that living in the Shuswap provides so many opportunities for exploration and that every kid should have a chance to do them at least once: swimming, hiking, camping, skiing and ice fishing.
Everyone in the whole school is doing something together everyday for Unplug and Play week. Some of the events students are engaged in are painting to classical music, reading with puppets and school-wide board games.
One of the school goals is to harness the benefits of being a small, rural school.
There was a school-wide turkey dinner before Christmas, community walks to the river, cemetery and fish sorting centre and most recently, ice fishing.
The school is planning a trip to Tube Town at Silver Star very soon.
