The Salmon Arm Observer is looking to hear more from our community members and is interested in finding out what they love about Salmon Arm and the Shuswap.

We are profiling different residents for our community section, by asking them to answer a list of questions about Salmon Arm and the Shuswap and why they think it is so great.

This week we are profiling Ted Crouch, who has lived in Salmon Arm for 25 years with his wife Karin. They raised both of their boys here. Crouch’s career spanned more than 30 years in the field of community and economic development in Alberta and B.C. He’s an active supporter of the arts and recreation sectors, volunteering with the rowing and paddling club, Roots and Blues Festival and director of the original wooden dragon boat society.

And what does he think of the Shuswap?

When someone says ‘the Shuswap’ what’s the first thing that comes to mind?

Shuswap Lake, the highlands and the valleys, the rivers and the streams – “Everything Shuswap”!

If you could change or improve one thing about your community what would it be?

Make sure everyone who is in need and wants it, has a roof over their head, are safe, warm and well fed!

What are the top three places you would recommend that tourists visit when they are in Salmon Arm?

Marine Park, Canoe Beach, Park Hill hiking trails.

What do you see for the community in 20 years?

A vibrant downtown with an active evening scene and at least one block dedicated as a pedestrian-friendly way.
