Music lovers will be able to swing in the spooky season with the upcoming Celebrate Shuswap Halloween Dance Party featuring the band Souls in Rhythm.
Hailing from Calgary, Souls in Rhythm (SIR) is a funk/soul group has toured much of the nation and opened for prominent artists such as American hip-hop icon Common, and R&B super-group Boyz II Men.
Rather than being impressionists of master/classic artists of the genre, Souls in Rhythm has a modern sound and seeks to innovate and contemporize a musical form they love, reads a media release by Celebrate Shuswap's Jim Cooperman.
"With a live show that delivers 'hard-hitting bass, rhythmic guitar, rock-solid drums and dancing keys, all welded together with Henderson’s polished vocals' (Kamloops This Week), Souls in Rhythm will make you feel its music, inevitably ending with everyone shaking it up on the dance floor," reads the release.
SIR has received many accolades for their songwriting, including nominations for Western Canadian Music Awards, and YYC Music Awards. They were finalists of the National Songwriting Competition, and winners of the CBC Showcase Songwriting Competition. Over the last couple of years, SIR has released several singles from a songwriting residency at the Banff Centre for Arts & Creativity, and is currently writing and recording their next full-length album.
The concert is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 25 at Song Sparrow Hall. Doors open at 7 p.m. with showtime at 7:30.
"Dance party fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead at Song Sparrow Hall with four more Celebrate Shuswap shows," said Cooperman, adding people can look forward to a New Year's Eve party featuring "Bob Roger’s funk/jazz/rock super group, Majesty, who play a wide selection of funk, R&B, ska and a few cool, original tunes."
In 2025, the first show will be a Valentine Boogie on Feb. 14 with Hot Sax, a groove band from the Okanagan whose music is described as funk meets punk, said Cooperman. On March 8, dance enthusiasts can enjoy the Motown sounds of Vancouver's Krystle Dos Santos, and on April 26th it will be a night of soulful rhythm and blues with Ethal Askey and the Elevators.
