The Salmon Arm Folk Music Society is looking to showcase emerging local musicians through its new Digital Currents Concert Series.

“This series has been in the works for some time,” said Salmon Arm Folk Music Society (SAFMS) artistic director Kevin Tobin of the initiative.

Recording is set to begin in the fall, and SAFMS plans to beam the concert series onto screens and into homes across the province beginning in December.

Before the show can begin, however, the SAFMS is needs six emerging/independent B.C. musicians who will take part in the series.

“Our mission at the SAFMS is to enrich the cultural fabric of our community, both in Salmon Arm and across the province,” said Tobin. “We’re thrilled to give these musicians a platform to share their music and meet new fans through Digital Currents.”

Applications are now open to signed and unsigned musicians of all ages from all genres and all corners of British Columbia. All applications will be reviewed by a jury panel before Tobin selects the final six to perform a recorded and live showcase in Salmon Arm.

“We can’t wait to offer this unique chance for emerging artists from B.C. to connect with fans throughout the province and the world,” said Tobin.

Digital Currents follows the SAFMS’ 31st annual ROOTSandBLUES festival featuring Sarah McLachlan, Blue Rodeo, Five Alarm Funk and more at the Salmon Arm Fairgrounds Aug. 17-20.

For more information about Digital Currents, funded in part by the BC Arts Council Art Impact Grant, and ROOTSandBLUES this summer, visit the SAFMS online at rootsandblues.ca or call 250-833-4096.
