Re: Salmon Arm secondary schools reconfiguration.
In looking at the recent proposed changes, there are several buses from the west which will pass the Jackson campus going to the Sullivan campus, and some from the east which will pass the Sullivan campus going to Jackson.
I am perturbed, for three reasons:
Firstly, in my estimation, the return distance between the Sullivan and Jackson campuses is about 5 kilometres. Consequently, buses from the west will pass the Jackson campus twice daily for each day school is in session, and similarly buses from the east will pass the Sullivan campus twice daily. There appears to be extra costs imposed by the time you multiply the number of buses by the number of school days times the fuel consumption. This will raise costs to taxpayers.
Secondly, I don't know how much pollution is put into the air by each school bus, but I find myself thinking the school trustees are being very irresponsible to our environment for this extra air pollution.
Thirdly, students will be on buses each day longer than they need to be.
if this is, indeed, a reasonable problem, then I think a few minutes spent with a road map would resolve both of these concerns.
