Building for shelter

Birdhouse building competition to benefit local women's shelter.

  • Mar. 29, 2011 4:00 p.m.

The Mall at Piccadilly is hosting a spring birdhouse building competition.

Birdhouse kits are available from the mall office for a donation of $8, which will go to support the local Women’s Emergency Shelter.

Join in the fun and pick up a birdhouse kit, build and decorate it, and take it back to the mall to enter the contest in which you could win a fabulous prize.

Categories for judging include children, families, community groups and businesses, and any birdhouse not made from the kit.

Completed birdhouses may be taken to the mall for display until April 21 and the public can vote on their favourite entry.

Winners will be determined by the People’s Pick.

Donated birdhouses will be raffled off in an auction at the end of the promotion to benefit the women’s shelter.

School-aged children who purchase a birdhouse kit for $8 can attend a free birdhouse decorating workshop at the mall on Saturday,  April 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The contest closes April 23.
