Kids invited to act out in new group

James Bowlby and Lana Caputi are continuing their theatre school for the winter and spring term. Last year a number of students in three age categories enjoyed the drama games, theatre exercises and improvisations. This led to the Christmas production when they were joined by a number of adults and support from Shuswap Theatre.

This term they will work under a new name: Salmon Arm Actors’ Studio, with classes at the SASCU Downtown Activity Centre for students aged five to eight, eight to 13, 13 to 15 and adults.

“There is a real need for drama for younger children and theatre training for teens and adults,” says Caputi. “James and I have a great program worked out. As in the previous term we saw real improvement in the acting ability, self-esteem and self-confidence of our students.”

Caputi and Bowlby bring many years of theatre and theatre education experience to this school.

Bowlby studied with Gavin Bolton, visiting professor from London at the University of Victoria. Caputi recently worked in London with Philippe Gautier, who teaches clowning internationally. Check out the Salmon Arm Actors’ Studio at www.saactorsstudio.com.
