With a passion for teaching, local artist Beve Hietala is realizing her dream this new year with the opening of Beve’s School of the Arts in The Mall at Piccadilly.

The school will offer classes and private lessons in a variety of art forms, as well as provide a gallery for local artisans to show and sell their work.

Beve’s School of the Arts will open Wednesday, Jan. 26, with classes and private lessons in acrylic and oil painting techniques given by Hietala.

Jan Parada will offer lessons in glass bead- making.

Hietala’s vision is to see Beve’s School of the Arts become the go-to place for artistic talent and information whether painting, music, writing or lighting and stage set up.

It will be a place where aspiring artists can get information and instruction, and where local artisans can share their skills.

“There is so much talent in the Shuswap, and I want this to be a place where unique and talented people can share their knowledge,” she says.

Formerly operating as Nature’s Art Studio, Hietala paints in acrylic and oil, using nature as her inspiration. She enjoys pushing the envelope when it comes to the different surfaces she works on.

Hietala has won many awards over the years and has studied under such prominent artists as Terry Isaac, John Banovich, Dale Gehrman, and John Seery Lester.
