After a two-month hiatus for a major renovation, Pinz Gallery presents an exhibition by Teagan Campbell.
Campbell has dedicated herself to creating art since early childhood. And, at 22, her passion for art continues to evolve.
Campbell has been recognized for her dedication and her ability to progress.
“My process starts with constructing a relationship with things I visually enjoy – messy sketches, recreating until it’s in new form that becomes vaguely explanatory, even to me,” Campbell says. “I appreciate uncertainty when beginning a piece. Starting with the moments when I am alone or feel lonely.”
The artist says she’s lured in by “even the most loathsome thoughts,” which progress to more delicate memories.
“I’m drawn to space and time – white spaces, dark spaces. Flawed spaces,” she says. “I find myself staying up all hours just to have the calm of the night. Secluding myself in thought. Embracing my conflicts. I struggle with my own ambivalence.”
Campbell describes the process as a means to help reconcile those conflicts.
Her exhibit at Pinz contains completely new work.
These current works are more focused on simplifying – addressing delicate matters and simply creating a symbol from them.
“What is destructive, what is beautiful?” she asks. “What I create is like a diary, spelling out a moment, a relationship, a place. It has become a way for me to remember those moments, even ones I’d love to forget.”
Campbell’s new exhibition opens Saturday May 21 and continues through June 27 at Pinz Gallery, 321 Hudson Ave.
