Singer-songwriter Megan Abel to compete in Our Kids Have Talent Music Competition on Saturday.

At the age of 15, Salmon Arm singer-songwriter Megan Abel has embarked on a busy musical career.

Last spring, she won the youth category of the Song for Shuswap competition, and placed third in the Shuswap Idol competition at the Fall Fair. And she has performed onstage at the Pink Cherry, Cantina Vallarta and local coffee houses.

Most recently, Abel made the final cut in the third annual Our Kids Have Talent Music Competition, being held Saturday, March 12 in Vernon. She will be among 12 young contestants vying for $10,000 in cash and prizes at a gala performance in the St. James Hall.

“It’s really well-organized and the talent is amazing,” Abel says of the competition. “I’m blown away by the variety and level of talent here.”

With Saturday fast approaching, Abel is working hard on the two original songs she will perform – Just My Life and Ordinary Girl. written just two days before her audition.
