Shuswap Film Society presents Daydream Nation, the tale of angst of a city girl who becomes entangled in a love triangle at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at the Salmar Classic.
Opera
The Met: Live in HD. features Rossini’s Le Comte Ory, at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9 at the Salmar Classic Theatre. Tickets are $24 at the door or online at salmartheatre.com.
Poets
Student poets of Salmon Arm Secondary will share their work in the first SAS Speaks poetry contest at the Sullivan Campus at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 13. There will be music from Raymond Ross and The Pink Violins, art and poetry from local students and special guest, slam poet Johnny MacRae. Admission is $3 at the door.
Rock the dress
Several area photographers will participate in Rock the Dress for Breast Cancer 2011, Saturday, May 7. Put on your favourite dress and for a $100 fee, get a disc of 20 high-resolution photos of your shoot, as well as web-ready images to share. Dance for Parkinson’s
Sandy Cameron and Friends present Let’s Dance For Parkinson’s Saturday, April 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fifth Avenue Seniors Activity Centre. Tickets are $6 and include light refreshments and a live auction.
Arts scholarships
Applications are being accepted for two arts scholarships: The Marie Manson Memorial Arts Award is for an emerging artist in any genre working on a specific project or body of work. The Blair Borden Award is given annually to a musician who wishes to use the grant to further their education in music. Application forms area available at www.shuswapartscouncil.bc.ca under Grants. Deadline is April 30.
