Surviving motherhood

Nicolle Nattrass, a Jessie nominated actress and a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada will be in Salmon Arm on Saturday, July 16

Nicolle Nattrass, a Jessie nominated actress and a member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada  will be in Salmon Arm on Saturday, July 16 to do a free public reading of her newest play, Mamahood: turn and face the strange.

The reading will be a kick-off event for the second year of Theatre on the Edge, and will also feature previews of Theatre on the Edge shows, festival ticket and pass sales and a draw for a free seven- show festival pass.

The one-woman play, directed by TJ Dawe, has received public readings in Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo.

Marie, an extremely sleep deprived first time mother, dares to tell the tale of her descent into motherhood with both humour and pathos as she travels to an alternate time and place – Planet Mamahood, where unpredictable and strange events unfold.

“Nattrass’s brilliant one-woman show hits hard and opens the audience to the inner world of deep pain in the midst of heart-aching baby love,” says psychologist Dr. Carolyn Nesbitt.

This play contains adult content and mature language.

Mamahood: turn and face the strange will be presented at Shuswap Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 16.

Theatre on the Edge is a three day celebration of brave and bold theatre presented by Shuswap Theatre, from July 22 to 24.

Each play is under 60 minutes, and in between shows theatre-goers can relax on the patio with a drink and a bite to eat while listening to free entertainment.

Tickets and information are available at www.shuswaptheatre.com.
