At Askew’s, we are proud of our long history of strong relationships with local producers. Since our beginnings as a small butcher shop in 1929, we have worked closely with local producers to supply customers with a wide selection of fresh and tasty products.
Today, we continue to buy from orchards and farms in the Okanagan-Similkameen and Thompson-Shuswap valleys.
When Dick Askew, grandfather of the current owners, opened for business, Askew’s sold mainly local lamb, pork, beef, poultry, milk, cheese, vegetables and fruit.
Dick’s oldest son Lloyd took overt the business upon the death of his father in 1951.
Over the years, Lloyd worked with local hog and beef producers who provided meat for his meat plant.
Even in the age of cheap energy and transportation when goods from far-away could undercut the price of locally produced goods, Askew’s continued to buy locally whenever possible.
Askew’s remains proud to sell local products such as: Gort’s Gouda; Shuswap Coffee, White Lake Bickies, Laura’s Pies, and D Dutchmen Dairy. At Askew’s, it’s still local food for local people.
Askew’s has always been known for selling quality products at fair prices. At times, selling local produce is not as easy as it seems. For example, the famous local strawberries have a limited shelf life. However, Askew’s staff are willing to put in the extra effort required to stock local goods and make them available to customers.
Because Askew’s customers want to buy locally produced products, Askew’s support local producers which enriches the economic base of our community.
