1 dead in highway crash east of Salmon Arm, RCMP looking for witnesses

Salmon Arm RCMP are asking anyone who witnessed the vehicle collision on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 1, to come forward after confirming that it resulted in a fatality. 

Tuesday afternoon at 2:39 p.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle collision five kilometres east of Canoe that closed the highway for hours. Their initial investigation indicates that a Toyota minivan crossed the centre line and collided with a Toyota pickup truck. 

"BC Ambulance were on scene and advised the driver and lone occupant of a Toyota minivan was deceased," Const. Andrew Hodges said in a media release, adding that the occupants of the pickup were taken to hospital with minor injuries. 

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage from the area is asked to contact the Salmon Arm RCMP at 250-832-6044, reference file numb er 2024-6314."

The highway reopened after a three-hour closure during which traffic was rerouted along Highway 97A and 97B.
