With council's approval, the Chase Visitor Centre will be installing two new information kiosks in the village similar to those used in the South Shuswap.

The Chase Visitor Centre will keep residents and tourists better informed with its 'You are Here' project after getting council's approval to install two new kiosks in the village.

At the Oct. 22 meeting, council received a request to put one of the kiosks adjacent to the Visitor Centre between the building and the electric vehicle charging station, and the other by the washrooms at Tsúqw7e/Memorial Park.

"We are just hoping to get more information out to the community and to the visitors here. We've seen an increase this year in visitors, so that is great," visitor centre manager Christina Lutterman said of the project. "We have a small little box... outside the door for when the office is closed and we fill that, I mean the information goes right out, so the more we can give out into the community, the better."

The kiosks, part of a project that received $40,000 in funding from Destination BC earlier this year, will provide maps, brochures, information about Chase and will also feature artwork by local artists, with several having already applied to be included.

The project will also see the village map at Shuswap Avenue and Coburn Street get updated.

"The big map board will also be amended. It hasn't been changed for I think, 20 years or something like that," Lutterman explained. "There will be more of a focus on where to find what, like the wharf for instance. On the current maps we have, it's a little thing that could be a printing error."

The project received unanimous approval from council.
