There will be a heavy emergency personnel presence at Sicamous Houseboats this weekend for a dress rehearsal of the real deal.
A media release from the District of Sicamous said that on Saturday, Nov. 2, Sicamous Fire Rescue, Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue, the Swansea Point Fire Department, the BC Ambulance Service and the Shuswap Emergency Program will participate in a multi-agency emergency response exercise.
"If you witness emergency vehicles around Sicamous Houseboats on November 2, please know that a practice is underway to prepare for future emergency events involving multiple agencies," the release reads.
Multi-agency response teams are essential to the effective management of large-scale events, such as the recent collision on the Bruhn Bridge when a semi-truck plunged into the channel below, requiring a coordinated effort from various crews.
The teams consist of the different specialized agencies that each bring their own areas of expertise and assume specific responsibilities.
"Together, these agencies work together towards the common goal of saving lives and reducing harm," reads the release. "Effective multi-agency response requires thorough planning, coordination and communication."
These training exercises help keep first responders in fighting form and able to work together seamlessly.
