June Kwon, the District of Sicamous’ new planning assistant, recently joined the development services team, and is already looking for more ways to get involved in the community.

In an April 10 media release, the district introduced Kwon, who said he’s excited about the opportunity to volunteer with the Sicamous Fire Department, one of the many things that drew him to the community.

“I was inspired to apply for the position by the fascinating nature and passionate local characteristics of Sicamous,” he said in the release.

Kwon brings to the department experience in conceptual development and composition of as-built drawings, as well as an academic background in architecture. In his new position, he will assist in planning activities, including processing applications, responding to public enquiries, preparing materials for meetings and improving the efficiency of the department.

“I am excited to witness the growth of the community,” he added. “I look forward to collaborating with the passionate people who show interest in Sicamous.”

When not at work, Kwon plans to take advantage of what the Shuswap has to offer by mountain biking and exploring the area, as well as fixing and modifying his car and bike.

“I would like to express my gratitude for the warm welcome expressed by the District of Sicamous council and staff,” he said. “And a special thank you to the community for awarding me the chance to be here!”

Kwon can be reached for any planning enquiries by email at jkwon@sicamous.ca or his direct line at 250-836-5261.
