Traffic disruptions can be anticipated in downtown Salmon Arm over the coming weeks as utility projects get underway.
In advance of the upcoming utility upgrade project planned for the downtown, on Thursday, Feb. 22, the city’s contractor will be doing exploratory work to locate those utilities prior to construction.
In a Feb. 20 update on the project, the city said the work will require traffic control throughout the day at the Ross/Hudson intersection.
“Traffic movements will be permitted in all directions for the duration of the one-day work, under Traffic Control Persons direction,” said the city.
Following Thursday’s work, the city said the Ross/Hudson intersection will be closed as of 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, for the installation of a sanitary sewer upgrade. The city anticipates the intersection will reopen to traffic on Monday morning, Feb. 26.
On Monday, Feb. 26, Ross Street, from Lakeshore Drive to the south side of the Ross Street Parking Lot access, will be closed to vehicle traffic for work on sanitary and storm systems.
“The contractor will be working during daytime hours to complete the work, with a portion of the work being undertaken at night,” said the city. “Night work will allow an accelerated completion schedule, minimizing the impact to downtown traffic.
“Provisions will be made to ensure continued access to the Ross Street Parking Lot and full access for pedestrians and businesses during this time. The Ross Street closure is expected to last for two weeks.”
While traffic disruptions can be expected, the city said every effort will be made to keep them to a minimum.
“Construction signs will be posted to assist with traffic flow. Please exercise caution and obey all signage placed for your safety,” said the city.
