The trails are officially open for cross country skiing at Larch Hills, though users are advised to be cautious in the early season conditions.

It's après-ski season, which the Shuswap can now enjoy après hitting the trails at Larch Hills.

The nordic recreation area is now open for cross-country skiing, with a Dec. 3 media release announcing grooming has been done, with "reports of good skiing for early season conditions," though more snow is needed before they can set the tracks.

The Larch Hills Nordic Society also asked that, given the early season conditions, if anyone sees a rock on the trail that they stop and remove it.

"The snow is still quite thin in places, especially Sunshine, Woodlot Ramble and the Canine trails," the release states. "The cold helped somewhat with open water but there is still quite a bit with rocks, sticks and icy areas. The Bogs have not been travelled on as they still have a lot of open water."

They advised that skiers should be prepared to detour in some areas and to hit the trails with caution. People are also asked not to snowshoe or walk on the trails as it affects the grooming that's been done.

The snow shoe trails are open and getting use, but the society again recommends avoiding the bogs until there are colder temperatures and more snow. Up to date conditions can be found online at skilarchhills.ca.

The chalet is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for pre- and après-ski opportunities to warm up.
