When it comes to letters to Santa, nothing will stop Salmon Arm and Sorrento postal workers from making sure they're delivered on time.
For more than 40 years, Canada Post elves have made sure children’s letters make their way to the particular North Pole address.
This year, even with the ongoing strike, the Shuswap’s dedicated postal workers are going above and beyond to ensure that every child’s wish reaches Santa Claus himself," reads a media release from Jennifer Goncalves, a top-secret elf/postal worker based in Sorrento.
“Kids in the Shuswap have been writing their hearts out to Santa, and we’re making sure that each letter gets to the North Pole – no matter what," said Goncalves. “We’ve got the North Pole on speed dial – no letter is left behind!”
The mission is simple but sacred: collect letters from eager little ones across the Shuswap and get them to Santa in time for Christmas Eve. Every child who writes to Santa will receive a letter from the jolly old man himself.
“There’s no way we’re letting a little snow or a postal strike get in the way of delivering holiday joy,” said Charlene Gilberg, another of Santa’s helpers. “We’ve been doing this for decades, and we’re not about to stop now. Santa needs those letters, and we’re going to make sure he gets them.”
To send a letter to Santa, children can drop them off in person at the main Canada Post locations in Salmon Arm and Sorrento. Letters must be received by December 18 to ensure Santa has enough time to respond.
Here’s where to take them:
· Salmon Arm Canada Post Office: 370 Hudson Ave, Salmon Arm, B.C.
· Sorrento Canada Post Office: 1240 Trans Canada Highway, Sorrento, B.C., V0E 2W0
Once Santa receives the letters, the elves will make sure each child receives a personalized response. Letters from Santa will be available for pickup at the same location by December 20 at 4 p.m.
“The best part of this job is seeing the joy on the kids' faces when they pick up their letter from Santa,” said Goncalves, also a mother of two little ones. “It’s like a little piece of magic that we get to be a part of.”
Even with the challenges this year, the message is clear: the holiday season is a time for kindness, and no one is working harder than the Shuswap postal elves to keep the magic alive, reads the media release.
In case you don’t already have Santa’s address from previous years, here it is again.
