Sicamous puts the brakes on people driving on local beaches

Violations should be reported to Fisheries and Oceans Canada

After receiving some reports, the District of Sicamous is reminding people not to drive on area beaches, which fall under the jurisdiction of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

While spring weather may have locals wanting to hit the beach, the District of Sicamous is reminding people not to drive on them.

In an notice on its website, the district said staff has received "reports of vehicles driving on the waterfront beach areas." They added that Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has jurisdiction over fish habitats, including Shuswap and Mara lakes.

The district asks that anyone witnessing incidents related to shoreline violations report them to the DFO at 1-800-465-4336, or by email at DFO.ORR-ONS.MPO@dfo-mpo.gc.ca.
