Different locations, different opponents, same result.
The Salmon Arm Silverbacks were busy over the weekend with an away game in Chilliwack, followed by a home game at Shaw Centre. Both contests saw the gorillas at come out on top with four-goal wins.
On Friday, Nov. 10, the ‘Backs faced off against the Chiefs. In the first frame, neither team was able to find the back of the net. This changed within the first minute of the second period, when the Chiefs’ Brian Morse was able to light up the board. A few minutes later, Salmon Arm’s Cole Longacre responded with a marker assisted by Reid Varkonyi and Cole Cooksey. After that, the only thing the Chiefs could pick up was time in the penalty box.
Close to the 10-minute mark, Ty Paisley potted another goal for Salmon Arm, assisted by Isaac Lambert and Ryan Gillespie. At 16:46, JJ Monteiro scored, assisted by Riley Ashe, giving the Silverbacks a 3-1 lead for the final stanza.
At 7:16 in the third period, Jacob Bonkowski added another goal to the Silverbacks’ lead, assisted by recently signed forward Jonah Aegerter, as well as Adam Boatter. The team would hold onto its 4-1 win until the final buzzer.
Silverbacks’ goalie Ryan Grout stopped 26 shots on net.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, the Silverbacks scored a 4-0 win when they hosted the Vernon Vipers. Twenty-seven seconds into the first period, Paisley scored the game’s first goal, assisted by Gillespie and Lambert. At 18:55, Bonkowski potted a power-play conversion assisted by Paisley and Nathaniel Davis.
The second period saw a single goal delivered solo by Lambert at 8:22. Final goal of the night was delivered at 2:06 by Maddux Martin, assisted by Ashe and Monteiro.
Next up for the Silverbacks is a home game versus the Victoria Grizzlies on Nov. 17, followed by another tangle with the Vipers, again at Shaw Centre, on Nov. 18.
In other Silverbacks news, the team recently announced its signing of Aegerter and goalie Tysen Smith.
Aegerter last played with the Sioux City Musketeers earlier this season where he scored three goals and three assists in 14 games played. The Janesville, Wisconsin was also a part of Team USA in the 2021-22 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he scored two goals in four games played.
Smith, from Prince George, last played with the Yorkton Terriers where he went 1-8 in 12 games played with a 4.79 GAA and a .870 SV per cent.
