The Salmon Arm Silverbacks notch their fourth straight win on Friday night (Nov. 17).
The team skated into lucky number four on home ice against the Victoria Grizzlies, taking game 4-3 in front of 1,352 fans.
Though the visiting team got on the board first, with Anthony Carone sliding one in at the five minute mark, assisted by Nathan King and Anderson Pirtle, the Silverbacks responded less than a minute later. Casy Laylin tied things up, with assists from Tristan Allen and Nick Wellenreiter, before teammate JJ Monteiro gave them the advantage on a late-frame power play, assisted by Reid Varkonyi and Allen.
The two teams traded goals in the second, with Varkonyi maintaing Salmon Arm’s lead off a pass from Cole Cooksey. Ryan Watt answered back for the Grizzlies with an impressive, unassisted goal while short handed, though they were still trailing by one going into the second intermission.
Just over one minute into the third, Nathan Mackie scored the game-winner for the Silverbacks, assisted by Jacob Bonkowski and Jonah Aegerter. Despite Victoria’s Pirtle mid-frame effort earning them one more, assisted by Luc Pelletier, it wasn’t enough to catch up to Salmon Arm, giving them the 4-3 win.
The team is back on the ice Saturday night as they host the Vernon Vipers, with the puck dropping at 6 p.m.
