Amidst soaring temperatures, the on-ice competition is set to heat up, too, as the Sicamous Eagles prepare for the 2024-2025 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season.
Exhibition games start on Friday, Aug. 30, with the Eagles slated to meet the Revelstoke Grizzlies for a pair of games. They'll head to Revelstoke for the pre-season opener on Aug. 30, before hosting the Grizzlies on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. on both nights.
The team follows that with another double-header against Chase on Sept. 6 and 7.
Regular-season action starts later that month when the Eagles hit the road for three games. The team's official home opener is set for Sept. 28, when they host the Merritt Centennials. The full schedule can be found on the league website at kijhl.ca.
The Salmon Arm Silverbacks of the B.C. Hockey League will also hit the ice soon with the 2024 Top Prospects Camp from Wednesday, July 31, to Friday, Aug. 2 at Rogers Rink (formerly the Shaw Centre). That's for 2008-2009-born players, who can sign up online at sasilverbacks.com.
The BCHL's exhibition season starts a bit later than the KIJHL, with the 'Backs playing their first game at home against the Trail Smoke Eaters on Sept. 8, while the regular season starts for them on Sept. 20, when they head to take on the Cowichan Valley Capitals. The team's home opener is scheduled for Oct. 4, when they host the Vernon Vipers.
