The Sicamous Eagles withstood the Heat Friday night with a 6-5 win over Chase.
The team played a tight, back-and-forth game on the road against the Chase Heat, with the home team having a strong opening. The Heat’s Kaleb Preymak scooped the first two goals of the game, with assists from Lynden Robertson, Kieran Strauss and Bhavin Serown, before the Eagles took control, scoring three times in quick succession. Nick Wright started them off, potting one off of Daniel Kroon and Alex Smith. Parker Fournier added the second, from Brendan Calahasen and Tyler Burke, followed up just over three minutes later by Ashton Angle, assisted by Alex Dunnett and Landen Janz. Chase, however, earned a late frame goal from Robertson, assisted by Serown and Preymak, sending the game into intermission on even footing.
The Heat owned the second frame, with Mikkel Hrechka scoring just three minutes in, assisted by Markus Baron, before teammate Owen Dean closed it out on a power play at the 18:52 mark, with assists from Serown and Kieran Armitage.
The Eagles, however, took the game back in the third, with mid-frame goals from Everett Boucher and Kroon, with assists coming from Hayden Evans, Wright and Smith, with Chase unable to hit the net. That sent the game into overtime with a 5-5 tie, where Smith earned the game-winning goal on a power play, assisted by Kroon and Fournier. This marks the Eagles’ third win against the Heat this season, with just one loss to them back in September.
“Was a very tense game,” top fan Grace Martin wrote on the Eagles Facebook page. “But the Eagles flew! Yeah!”
The Eagles hit the ice again Saturday night, when the league-leading team with 33 points faces off against the North Okanagan Knights, in second last place with nine points. The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. at the Nor-Val Centre in Armstrong.
