After suffering a narrow loss Friday night, the Sicamous Eagles rebounded on Saturday, Oct. 5, scoring three times that of their opponents and taming the Creston Valley Thunder Cats with a 6-2 win on home ice.
The Cats lit up the board first on an early power play in the opening frame. They kept that lead until just over 13 minutes in when Austin Horbachewsky scored his first of the night, with Josh MIssfeldt and Jackson Maloney adding assists. Though Tye Matthews bumped them ahead soon after, with assists from Gavin Bretherick and Alexander Leskiw, Creston thundered back to tie the game going into the first intermission.
From there the Eagles soared, potting another three in the second, with Devon Barclay scoring the game-winning goal, followed by insurance markers from Ashton Gallagher and Hobachewsky who both capitalized on power plays. The latter came despite the Cats having changed out their goalie mid-frame.
Walker Overwater, Missfeldt, Hayden Evans, Colton Fleming, Maloney and Levi Dewitt all added assists in the offensive.
The third frame saw little action, with the Eagles collecting penalty minutes and Creston pulling their goalie in the final minutes, which allowed Leskiw to earn an empty netter, assisted by Nick Wright and Missfeldt for a decisive win.
The Eagles hope to maintain that momentum as they face off against the Centennials in a weeknight game on Tuesday, Oct. 8 in Merritt. They bring the action back home on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they host the Osoyoos Coyotes at 7 p.m.
