The Sicamous Eagles bumped the Merritt Centennials down a spot in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League after winning both back-to-back games 5-2 over the weekend.
Though the score gave a sense of déjà vu, the game itself rolled out differently, with the Eagles dominating the game early as markers from Reyd Langan and Maguire Nicholson put the team up 2-0 after the first. Ashton Angle, Walker Overwater, Josh Missfeldt and Nick Wright all added assists.
Rookie Austin Horbachewsky furthered their lead in the second with his 9th regular season goal, unassisted, that clinched the game for the Eagles. The Centennials didn't join Sicamous on the board until they capitalized on a late frame power play that was matched by Wright with an insurance goal from Langan and Nicholson.
Gavin Bretherick scored the Eagles' fifth, unassisted, to open the last frame for a solid lead that one final power-play goal from the Cents couldn't touch.
Kael Svenson tagged the win in net, stopping 40 tries.
The Eagles are back at home this weekend as they host the two league leading teams, the Kimberley Dynamiters on Friday, Nov. 29 and the Princeton Posse Saturday, Nov. 30. The puck drops at 7 p.m. both nights.
