Job seekers and students in the Okanagan will have a unique opportunity to explore career and educational prospects at the Vernon Hiring & Post-Secondary Education Expo on Oct. 3.

Taking place at the Prestige Vernon Lodge & Conference Centre, this free event will connect attendees with top employers and educational institutions from across British Columbia.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., attendees can meet recruiters and representatives from industries as diverse as corrections, transportation, and community services. Organizations like BC Corrections, Bannister Automotive Group, Interior Health and The Bridge Youth & Family Services will be actively hiring for roles ranging from correctional officers and sales managers to healthcare assistants, nurses and counsellors.

Other prominent employers like Arrow Transportation, Geotech Drilling, and Sparkling Hill Resort are also on the lookout for new talent, offering roles across several sectors.

“It’s a chance to connect face-to-face with employers and educators, something you just don’t get in an online application process,” says Amanda Perley, Events Manager.

“We’re thrilled to offer such a wide range of opportunities, whether you’re looking for a job or considering your next step in education.”

Exploring education paths

For those looking to further their education or pivot to a new career, the expo will present post-secondary institutions like Ameridian Pacific College, Discovery Community College and Okanagan Valley College of Massage Therapy.

Representatives will be on hand to discuss programs ranging from career-focused training to professional certifications in high-demand fields such as massage therapy and healthcare.

“Education is a lifelong journey, and events like this can help people discover new paths they may not have considered before,” notes the Discovery Community College team.

“Whether it’s enhancing current skills or starting a new career, we’re here to support those goals.”

Tailored to all job seekers

The Vernon Hiring Expo is designed to be inclusive, catering to different job seekers. Whether you’re a recent graduate, looking for a career change, or seeking part-time roles, there’s something for you.

Notably, organizations like WorkBC Assistive Technology Services will be offering guidance and tools to help individuals with disabilities access employment.

Admission to the event is free and attendees are encouraged to bring resumes and dress professionally, as on-the-spot interviews are possible.
