Email scams target Victoria residents

Saanich police have been inundated with calls from residents receiving emails claiming to represent government agencies

Residents in Saanich and Greater Victoria continue to be targeted for identity theft, lately through email scams.

Saanich police have been inundated with calls from residents receiving emails from people identifying themselves as representatives of government agencies or companies like Microsoft. In the emails, the receiver is asked to give personal information via email.

Saanich police are reminding residents no government agency or major company would ask for personal information over email.

Police are advising residents to keep a close eye on their financial records and to immediately report any inconsistencies to their financial institution to the police.
