Beware of man requesting money

Over the last several weeks the Salmon Arm RCMP have received multiple complaints regarding a male soliciting funds and asking for help

Over the last several weeks the Salmon Arm RCMP have received multiple complaints regarding a male soliciting funds and asking for help using what police report are false stories.

The man, who is well known to police and not from Salmon Arm, has approached individuals and businesses asking for money to rent a hotel room or to buy food. He uses several variations of the same story including saying he has lost his wallet.

He also often promises to pay the money back once he recovers his wallet, which he does not.

People are asked to be cautious when asked for money or assistance by strangers and to be aware that your kindness might be rewarded by the loss of your money.

Hit and run

Salmon Arm RCMP were called to a hit and run that occurred in the 200 block of the Trans-Canada Highway on Dec. 28 at 8:25 p.m.

A witness observed an SUV fleeing the scene after hitting an unoccupied bus at that location.

Police responded and tracked the SUV to a nearby parking lot where they located a male suspect. After a short initial investigation the male suspect was arrested for obstruction and public intoxication. He was lodged in Salmon Arm cells and the incident of hit and run is still under investigation.

 

 

Break and enter

On Dec. 28, 2012, a female resident of Salmon Arm was arrested for break and enter, theft and uttering threats. The incident revolved around a monetary dispute and both the victim and suspect were known to each other. The 51-year-old suspect was released on conditions and the investigation is ongoing.
