Field prep: Sod was put down at Blackburn Park.

The upgrades to Blackburn park which have been on the City of Salmon Arm’s short-term strategic plan since 2013 are expected to make large strides towards completion this fall.

Rob Hein, the city’s manager of Roads and Parks estimated the new soccer field, which will be the second full-size field at the park will be completed in three weeks, before the end of October.

“It’ll be our newest championship field,” Hein said.

Hein added a paved walkway to the new field will also begin to take shape in the coming weeks.

Another long-awaited addition to the park, a spray park, also began construction last week.

A contractor for the construction of the spray park was selected by city council at their Sept.12 meeting.

Hein said a concrete slab for the spray park is expected to be poured by the end of October.

Hein added the proposed picnic-shelter project at Blackburn Park will be going to a call for proposals on Oct. 17 with a contractor to build it by the spring.
