Bus and car collide near Chase

Several injuries and possibly one fatality have been reported in an accident that took place just before 5 p.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway remains closed in both directions 11 km west of Chase following a collision between a tour bus and a vehicle.

Interior Health communications officer Michaela Swan says Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops is expecting to receive a total of 57 patients.

Of those, only 16 had arrived at the hospital as of 7 p.m., one in serious condition and the remaining 15 with non life-threatening injuries.

"We are expecting an additional 41 patients with minor to no injuries," says Swan. "I am unable to confirm anything at the accident, but from what I am hearing, the RCMP are confirming one fatality at the site."

The Trans-Canada is expected to re-open at approximately  11 p.m.

In the meantime, Drive BC advises drivers to detour via Highway 97 to Highway 97A.
