Chase motorcylist dies, police investigate truck driver

A Sorrento resident is under police investigation for possible drug impairment and failing to remain at the scene of the collision.

RCMP are investigating a fatal collision between motorcycle and a pick-up truck. The driver of the truck did not remain at the scene of Sunday afternoon's crash.

A 60-year-old Chase man is dead after his motorcycle was struck by a pick-up truck Sunday afternoon on the Squilax-Anglemont Highway.

The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old Sorrento resident, is under police investigation for possible drug impairment and failing to remain at the scene of the collision.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., RCMP from the Chase detachment and Central Interior Traffic Services were dispatched to the collision site near Magna Bay int he North Shuswap.

When they arrived, they found the motorcyclist dead at the scene.

On further investigation, which included a collision re-constructionist, it was determined that the incident was not a single vehicle crash, there was another vehicle involved. Members of the traffic services unit confirm the motorcycle was struck by a pick-up truck that was traveling in the same direction as the motorcycle, from Magna Bay towards Chase. The driver of the truck did not remain at the scene.

Later on, the truck's driver contacted police from his Sorrento residence.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are continuing to investigate.
