A portion of Lakeshore Drive NE is being monitored for slope stability by the City of Salmon Arm and drivers are being asked not to stop in that section of the roadway.
Signs that read “caution land slippage no stopping” are posted on the portion of the road between 7 street NE and 10 street NE.
Rob Niewenhuizen, City of Salmon Arm director of engineering and public works, says the signs are up as a precautionary measure following a minor land slippage. The signs were recommended by the city’s geotechnical engineer.
Niewenhuizen said minor land slippages are typical during the spring runoff season and the suspected cause of the failure of the bank was excessive groundwater resulting from heavy snow pack and recent rain.
“We are taking the necessary precautions and keeping an eye on it. I don’t suspect it will get any worse as the snow on the bank has for the most part all melted,” he said.
