Collisions close highway

Inattention resulted in two separate accidents on the Trans-Canada Highway and Bolton Road on Sunday.

Inattention resulted in two separate accidents on the Trans-Canada Highway and Bolton Road on Sunday.

Sgt. Scott Lachapelle of the Salmon Arm RCMP detachment says neither speed nor alcohol were involved in the accidents, which happened within about an hour of each other.

A west-bound Tappen resident was turning left on the Trans-Canada Highway around 1 p.m. Sunday, July 17, and caused a backup of vehicles.

The driver of a third vehicle plowed into a another waiting in line and set up a chain reaction involving the two cars ahead.

There were minor injuries, with one person being taken to Shuswap Lake General Hospital.

The driver who caused the accident received a violation ticket for travelling too close.

While police were at that scene, a second accident happened just west of Bolton Road. An eastbound vehicle rear-ended another vehicle in the lineup.

Lachapelle says the highway was closed for about 45 minutes.
