The front of Salmon Arm’s Okanagan College campus may not look so inviting, but Joan Ragsdale assures its doors remain open for business.

The college’s regional dean is excited to see construction preparation underway at the campus. A 49-unit, 60-bed student housing centre is being built, with the expectation it will be completed and open in 2024.

The building is going up at the northeast end of the property where the ring road used to be leading to the campus’ main entry. Unfortunately, Ragsdale points out, the construction may have people wondering how to access the campus or if it’s still open. She wants the public to know the campus remains open.

“We have a lot of folks who just drop in and we want to encourage people to keep doing that,” said Ragsdale, explaining most applications for the college’s fall programs come in between June and the first week of August.

Options to access the campus include parking in the SASCU Recreation Centre parking lot and using a pathway that goes around the west side of the construction fencing (towards the pond). Alternatively, the public can access the campus off 5th Avenue NE.

The bus stop at the campus has been relocated to a temporary location by Shaw Centre. There is also a bus stop behind the campus on 5th.

People may also continue contacting the campus by phone and online.

“Come down, call us, email us, we’re happy to help,” said Ragsdale.

The Salmon Arm Okanagan College campus is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, visit okanagan.bc.ca.
